Review, Vaping Guide

If you’re vaping for the first time, don’t make the mistakes I did

Real-world comparison of Alibarbar, iGet, and RELX vapes showing battery life, flavour performance, and daily usability

I still remember my first proper vape.

It was banana ice. I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t know how to hold it properly. I didn’t know how long to inhale. I definitely didn’t know how to exhale. I just copied what I thought people were doing and hoped for the best.

And honestly… I messed it up.

If you’re new to vaping, this isn’t a rulebook. It’s just the stuff I wish someone had told me before I wasted time, money, and a few decent flavours.

Mistake one. Thinking flavour names tell you everything

When I saw banana ice, I thought I knew exactly what I was getting.

What I didn’t realise was that banana ice in iget vapes, banana in alibarbar vape, and banana in relx pods are three completely different experiences.

My first banana ice hit hard. Warm on the throat. Cold on the exhale. Sweet and aggressive. At the time, I thought that was normal. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the only way banana could taste.

Later, when I tried alibarbar banana buzz, it felt calmer. More like actual banana. Less icy. Less shouty. That’s when it clicked that flavour names are just hints, not guarantees.

That realisation only came later, once I slowed down and paid attention to how flavours actually felt after trying more than I probably should have.

If you’re starting out please don’t assume you’ll like or hate a flavour forever based on one try.

Mistake two. Inhaling like it’s a cigarette

This one caught me out early.

I vaped like I smoked. Short pulls. Fast inhales. Straight to the throat. And then I wondered why everything felt harsh or flavourless.

Different devices want different styles.

Some vapes open up when you slow down. Some need quick puffs. Some sit in the middle. I didn’t know that at the start, so I blamed the vape instead of how I was using it.

If something tastes off, don’t throw it away straight away. Change how you inhale first.

Mistake three. Ignoring puff count and battery life

Early on, I didn’t care about puff numbers. Big mistake.

Nothing kills the experience faster than a vape dying early or starting to taste burnt when there’s still flavour left in your mouth. That burnt taste is hard to forget once you’ve had it.

These days, I pay attention. Especially when buying online or stocking up. That’s why I tend to browse properly through a trusted vape shop instead of impulse buying.

If you don’t want to buy again in a few days, puff count matters more than you think.

Mistake four. Thinking stronger means better

I used to think a strong throat hit meant quality.

Not always.

Some people love that sharp hit. Others don’t. I learned the hard way that just because something feels intense doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable long term.

Cooling, sweetness, and throat feel all change how strong something feels, even at the same nicotine level. Once I stopped chasing intensity and started paying attention to balance, vaping became way more enjoyable.

Mistake five. Not understanding why pods and disposables feel different

I bounced between disposables and pods without really knowing why they felt different.

Pods like relx pods are cleaner. Lighter. More controlled. Great if you want flexibility and easy flavour switching.

Disposables like alibarbar vape or IGET are simple. No setup No thinking You grab it and go.

Neither is better for everyone. I wish I’d understood that earlier instead of assuming one style had to replace the other.

Mistake six. Expecting every flavour to hit the same

This one took time to learn.

Some flavours physically cannot hit as hard as others. Watermelon will never punch like banana  no matter the brand.

Flavour is designed. It’s not random.

Once I realised that, I stopped being disappointed and started being curious. That mindset change alone saved me a lot of frustration.

A simple way I’d do it differently now

If I were starting again, I’d do three things.

  1. I’d try fewer flavours at a time.
  2. I’d give each vape a proper chance with different puff styles.
  3. And I’d accept that my taste would change over time.

That’s something you only learn by doing.

Final thoughts

If you’re vaping for the first time, you’re going to make mistakes. Everyone does.

I made plenty. Some expensive. Some frustrating. Some just confusing.

But once you stop expecting vaping to work like smoking, and start paying attention to how flavours actually feel, things get a lot easier.

You don’t need to get it right on day one.
You just need to keep learning.

Trust me. I’ve already made the mistakes for you.
